So, who am I?

My name is Elizabeth and I have three children who have accomplished every mother's dream . . . adulthood!

At a time when I was a single mother of three school-age children and a family day care provider caring for seven children (from infants to ten years), I was often asked questions about how I handled all the children. I usually found myself rattling on with stories of "my" children and their antics and enjoying every minute.

Children of all ages do and say the most amazing things. Anyone who has a child or two, or works with children in any capacity will understand my need to share stories. Since I am often asked "how," I have included recipes for everything from making chocolate chip cookies to organizing small spaces.

I have, at my children's insistence and that of my friends, compiled stories of those days -- what we learned, shared and loved.

I hope you find joy, and a few ideas, from these tidbits from a very special time of my life.

Just for the record and in case you were wondering just who I am ..., I do not have a degree in child psychology. I am not a doctor. I have never written a book and I'm a bit uncomfortable being labeled an expert -- however, I am a mother of three, the grandmother of five. I've been married three times and the third one will stick because I finally learned that I'm not always right -- ho hum.

But today our home is different -- no more children -- it's just Tom and me. Nonetheless, the days of not too long ago, when my house was abuzz with the pitter-patter of little feet, the wonderful smell of Crayola crayons, well-worn storybooks and Barney videos are forever close to my heart and the basis of this site.

This website is dedicated to the memory of a dear friend, who was always encouraging without being pushy, supportive without smothering -- a real friend. This site is dedicated to my friend, Carolyn Ludack -- for all she did without even knowing. RIP, dear Carolyn.. • EDW

    Who Am I?

_"What to Do with a Kid or Two" is a blog of my experience as a family home day care provider. This period in my life took place between 1990 and 1997 in Naples, Florida. The precious and precocious children in this blog are in their late teens and early twenties now ... some are in college or the military, some are still finding their way in the world, but all of them are loved and treasured today as they were when they were toddlers. I am still in touch with many of these children and remember this time in my life as one of my most special.
